What a disingenuous rant. I don't remember ever reading as many false equivalent propositions of Nazi propagandists ideology as this piece of shit.
It seems to me that your Jewish brother's are the genocidal perpetrators who could end the Nazi like extermination of the Palestinian people today or tomorrow morning, but your focused obsession over your hatred for all things Democratic has overruled any semblance of common sense.
Your willingness to accept the position of the Russian propagandists and support the professed authoritarian candidate for one of the two political parties has defeated your argument for being a progressive and makes me question who is paying you to write this bull shit.
I would highly recommend that you defect back to your mother Russian and join the Wagner group for the liberation of Ukraine and the defeat of the Nazi Fascist who inhabitant your origin country.
Thanks for the FREE SUBSCRIPTION. I suppose that you don't need us to pay for your bile, as someone else has already paid for this propagandists bovine feces.
I would be honored to be blocked from your site but until you exercise your personal right to authoritarian dictatorships over your own postings, you can rest assured that I will continue to read between the lines of your intellectual word craft and call your bull shit, bull shit.
If you really are against Trump you should realize that if the Democrats continue their denial they are much more likely to lose the election. If the humanity of the situation does not move you, perhaps the electoral consequences of not listening to the majority of Americans will wake you up. The article is well-referenced and I'm glad it evoked your critical thinking and democratic spirit. Your McCarthyism proves my point. You have no defense for this monstrous political party.
There is no denial of the humanitarian situation, but I rather doubt that the majority of the electorate are going to cast their votes on the survival of the Palestinian people, and those who do will write the death sentence for the rest of Palestine should they choose Trump.
The article is well researched but the conclusions are nearly all convoluted false equivalency conflating the Democratic Party with Nazi's, while disregarding the white supremacy Party that is using political violence as a means to the end of democracy because they can't win with their racist, misogynistic, fascist policies.
Confusing my statements with McCarthyism only proves my points of false equivalency and questionable motivation.
To be clear, exponding the current Russia propaganda regarding Palestine and Ukraine to influence our election is not an equivalent to McCarthy falsely accusing politicians and entertainers of Communism in the 1950s.
I don't know, I see delegates hitting a Palestinian woman over the head at the DNC, a scheduled Palestinian speaker forbidden from speaking, college students beaten and arrested for peaceful anti-war protest, legislation being passed to make political criticism of Israel a criminal act, a theme of "joy" at a convention at which the most powerful are actively committing genocide and have the power to stop it with a phone call, ghouls like Antony Blinken and Jake Sullivan gaslighting Americans about Gaza and Ukraine....and calling me an agent of Putin for pointing out the truth, that Democrats are silencing voices legislatively and using law enforcement to cover up their complicity while pretending they want a ceasefire which they know Netanyahu will never sign onto...that seems a bit McCarthyish. I believe our main disagreement is that I believe the survival of the Palestinian people IS our collective responsibility, partuicularly because we have enabled Israel's terror campaign against them for decades. The Democrats are the white supremacy party, a disease which you could be afflicted with for suggesting the lives of Palestinians are not worth as much as those here. The minimizing of Palestinian genocide, rape and torture with our blessing is tantamount to white supremacy as I see it.
Now, now, Joel. Barry is just a simple country doctor, intent on holistically treating the whole patient to find a cure for that patient's ailments. "That pesky knee pain. Let's amputate that mother, because Hillary Clinton has legs, and she uses them for evil." On the bright-side, maybe The Mafia has a better business model than all of this unworkable democracy experimentation.
Thanks for the personal insult that proves my point. Am I wrong for wanting to be able to vote for a presidential nominee in this "democracy" of ours rather than having the Democratic Party and their media lying for years about Biden's Parkonson's Disease until they are exposed, then expressing "joy" because they can anoint a candidate who is able to speak (to some degree)?
It's all personal with you, my friend. We're over here, minding our own business, voting for people whom we'd share a beer or a foxhole with. And, along comes Barry to throw a a bucket of slime over us, because he was personally traumatized by Hillary Clinton. It ain't right -- always cutting off the nose to spite the face. Real adults shouldn't be acting like this. Pardon us for trying to rid ourselves of those who would divide all of us for the purpose of conquering us -- or worse -- to make a dollar. But wtf do I know? I'm just a tile-man. I do know that the first tool I take into a home I'm working on is not a sledge-hammer, because why? "At first -- Do No Harm." And no, I don't have all the answers -- but neither does that useless eater who has convinced 50% of our world that he's the smartest guy in the room, and he alone can fix it with a sledge-hammer or a bone-saw. Peace. : )
Sure, Barry...they might have well staged the DNC in Nuremberg, that would have far better fit the jingoistic themes of joy, happiness, and a better tomorrow. It's really horrible when a political party exhorts its enthusiastic minions to VOTE THE SHIT out of the other guys. Geez, democracy is so unfair!!
When you learn the difference between campaigning and governing, I'll follow you again.
You don't REALLY want a solution in Gaza, because what then would you write about?
I don't have the power to stop the atrocities in Gaza which is why I write articles such as this. We evidently have a different definition of "democracy" as mine would include the leader of the free world have a competitive primary process with legitimate public debate and a proper vetting process. You can join the bipartisan fray by wanting to "VOTE THE SHIT" out of the other guys, but there might be more urgent considerations like a buildup to World War III and the party of "joy" dancing on the graves of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians. The larger issue is the Democratic Party lurch to the right when it comes to war, immigration, surveillance, and policing. The spectacle is a grotesque caricature of American Imperialism and a damning commentary on the moral character of our leaders. Biden or Harris could end the genocide with a phone call as Reagan did.
Netanyahu could have ended it yesterday or this morning or tomorrow morning, but he is counting on Trump to win and then give him cover for the final extermination and to keep him out of prison for the genocide.
Blaming the wrong criminal distracts from the primary responsibility, and defeats your stated purpose.
In my democracy, my political primary included a designated second. A proxy if needed. I voted for the ticket and my vote was not exclusive to the primary candidate. That is not fascism.
My urgent consideration includes all of humanity and the survival of the planet.
The primary resposibility lies with the administration that supplies the munitions used to massacre nearly 200,000 innocent Palestinians. And with those who have enabled Neatanyahu and previous Zionist Israeli administrations which Biden and Democrats have done for decades. You can deflect to Trump all you want but he didn't send $50 billion of bombs to Israel and then lie about ceasefire negotiations, minimize and question Palestinian casualties, lie about beheaded babies and systematic rape even when the stories were debunked, call peace protestors lawless and anti-Semitic, push the Antisemitism Awareness Act which stifles free speech and so on. "Your" democracy is one for the oligarchs, and as for blaming the wrong person I must be on an island with the millions of others blaming Biden and Harris as well. Regardless, if nothing is done and the genocide continues, in "your" democracy Trump has a greater chance of victory. I don't think asking for public debate and vetting of a candidate,as well as getting a chance to cast a vote, is really too much to ask in "my" democracy.
It's really sad Barry, the genocide didn't stop this morning and democracy be damned, it aint stopping any time soon. No matter what you say or I say about it, innocent people will be murdered today just like yesterday and the day before and the day before that.
You can blame whomever you want, but the murder doesn't stop. Not in the United States, Not in Gaza, not in the West Bank, not in Ukraine, not in Sudan, not in Syria or a host of other places on this planet.
Unfortunately no matter what you do or say or how much we agree or disagree, humanity is constantly being destroyed by human beings.
Have a shit fit over it because it matters, but don't expect to get support from the people you don't know and that you disrespectfully accuse of things you have no knowledge of.
I'm sure that if you had the answers to questions that would solve all the world's problems, you would have shared them with us by now.
I'm pretty sure that the Democratic Party is not solely responsible for the entirety of the problems that plague the planet, but hay, whatever floats your boat Einstein.
Mr. Kaufman, I am sympathetic with your analysis. I hope you do not lose heart and give up. Your Chomskyan notion about "Manufacturing Consent" is right on. I have agreed with that kind of thinking since the book was first published.
Unfortunately there are weaknesses and fault lines in the very structure of our economic and political institutions which allow, or even encourage this sort of thing to happen. Just as there were similar, but not identical flaws in the structure of inter-war German institutions; which produced the horror of Naziism.
As a Sociologist I am not particularly impressed by the Psychological Reductionist kinds of explanations on either side of this issue. The German system was flawed in that it allowed an old doddering, demented President von Hindenburg to appoint der Fuhrer of the Nazis to be the new Chancellor in 1933. The French system may have just allowed a young, impulsive President Macron to make the same error.
One problem in our system is that the office of president has been too powerful right from the beginning of our founding. There are not enough checks and balances for his/her power. We should have been able to see this when Abraham Lincoln jailed journalists who crossed him. We should have been able to see this when Harry Truman dropped the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We should have been able to see this danger when Truman sent the US military into the Korean war without a declaration of war from Congress.
Our system is also flawed in that the Supreme Court has become an untouchable cabal in our midst. We should have been able to see this when Chief Justice John Marshal wrote Marbury v Madison. Instead, that decision is taught in our schools as an example of a strengthening of the checks and balances in our system of government. Ironically, it did just the opposite. Marbury v Madison gave an unelected cabal the authority to reverse the will of the people, as this will is expressed through the elected representatives of the people in the houses of Congress. We did not see these weaknesses in our system and now we are tasked with slipping loose the Gordian Knot.
We have also failed to recognize the fault in our economic system. The Capitalist-Private-Ownership economic system we have inherited has left us in a situation where, according to Thomas Piketty (in his well documented CAPITAL) the US is the most unequal country in history. The powerful, untouchable, unelected financial elite have the ability to control all other institutions through their immense wealth. This is inevitable in a Capitalist system and the Capitalist economic system has become the dominant seat of power in America. The political system is the subordinate, second seat of power. All economic systems are composed of at least three essential parts: 1) raw materials 2) labor 3) markets. In our Capitalist system of privately owned components, the owners increase their wealth by a never-ending process of increased profits. This is accomplished by; 1) Acquiring raw materials at the lowest possible expense to the owners of the system. This is what the military is used for. 2) Driving down the price the owners pay for labor as low as they can drive it. Even to the point of chattel slavery. 3) Demanding the highest price the owners can get for their products and services in the market. This eventually results in monopoly. Since roughly the time of Teddy Roosevelt there have been puny efforts to "regulate" this wild Capitalist economy. These attempts at regulation have resulted in varying amounts of light effects.
Anyone who suggests that there might be an alternative economic system which is more responsive to the needs of the masses of people, is hysterically shouted down by almost every theorist and commentator in our country. It is your turn Mr. Kaufman, to be reviled. Wear it as a badge of honor. Yes, the abomination in Gaza should be reviled by the Democratic party. But do not be so surprised at their failure to do so. Remember this is the country which supported the worst form of slavery in history. But also remember that we eventually stopped it even if we only replaced it with what Abraham Lincoln called "wage slavery." One painful step at a time.
Awesome writing, research and argument, as usual. Now that I'm changing my vote to trump, will we again see a peaceful transition of power like we did in 2017?
Excellent read. Thanks for the thoughtful analysis (which you appear to have researched thoroughly). Barry J Kaufman is a brave truth teller ✌️
